portrait painting
Jazz Singer
oil on canvas
10" x 10"
2006

This piece was painted from a photograph of an unknown jazz singer printed in a magazine. The clipping I found in our student studio and later found out that a peer of mine had clipped it to paint. Our paintings were mutually interesting and resembled our individual hands at work. Her piece was much larger and broader of stroke than mine. Jazz Singer is the first of a series of facial portraits completed on 10"x10" or 12"x12" stretched canvas with oil colors.
